Eddye White

On April 19, 2022, the  “Patricia L. Kanan Award for Outstanding Service” was presented to Eddy White, longtime supporter of the ACKCS Charitable Trust.

When you first meet her, she presents as a positive individual.  Over time you find that she doesn’t know the word “no” and freely takes on whatever work needs to get done.  She always wears a smile and makes it her duty to get you smiling as well.

When she heard that volunteers were needed to organize the Charitable Trust Auction, she stepped up. She became the personal shopper for the Trust and we have never lacked items since. She collects items all year.  Throughout the week of the National, she stops by the “work room” frequently making sure the team has eaten, taken breaks and just making sure that things were going well. Often jumping in to help with whatever was happening.

She has a huge heart – for helping both people and dogs. And Cavaliers hold a most special place in that heart. A stalwart of the Wags for Wellness therapy dog program at University Hospital in Ravenna OH, she has volunteered with her dogs for more than 20 years. She and her Pet Partners have also brought smiles to the Dogs on Campus (DOCS) program at Kent State University; have brought comfort in Hospice visits and shared smiles in student stress relief programs at Northeast Ohio Medical University.

Eddye and her husband, Bill, created the Eddye White Canine Companionship Fund at UH for the Wags program. This generous gift funds special continuing education programs for the handlers, helps defray registration costs, provides teams with personalized dog bookmarks to hand out on visits and provides recognition gifts to members on special occasions. Perhaps the most significant use of the fund is in providing the supplies for the lap blankets the team members meet to make throughout the year, and along with their dogs, present to each patient in the hospital on Christmas Eve. This is a beloved tradition of the teams and of the hospital staff. Eddye also serves on the Wags for Wellness Board of Directors.

However, her dedication to actually “making the rounds” in the hospital with her beloved Cavalier Pet Partners is where her heart really shines. She and her dogs have logged literally thousands of hours sharing that love.
