Each year, generous artists agree to donate a special work of original art - usually a custom framed painting - commissioned specifically for that year's National Specialty and featuring a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The artwork is used for the cover of our show catalog and often on an Annual for the Club. The actual artwork is not revealed until it is displayed during the National Specialty at the Charitable Trust space in the ringside area. At the conclusion of the National Specialty, the Charitable Trust holds a very special event - a Banquet and Silent Auction. The National Artwork is auctioned off during this event and is one of the highlights of the evening. The money raised from the auctioning of the National Artwork has raised thousands of dollars over the years to help fund research that improves the quality of the lives of our Cavaliers. If you've never attended, please consider yourself invited to our Charitable Trust Auction & Banquet.  Can't attend but would like to help? See our "How to Help" tab on this site.

"Home Sweet Home"
Artist: Carol Lesley

Original Oil 16 X 12

Carol is a member of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club of Greater Atlanta.

Capturing love on paper is no easy task, but Carol Lesley specializes in painting portraits with a heart. Carol is a native Georgian with a special place in her heart for Cavaliers. Although Carol always had a love of artistic expression, it wasn't until retirement that she had the opportunity to fully follow this passion. Largely self-taught, Carol also studied with Maine portrait and landscape artist, Joan Baragar, and wildlife artist, Alan Young of Jasper, Georgia.

The first work after this new beginning was a pen and ink of her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Ruby. Her own little Ruby girl has been her inspiration. Carol's main focus now is on commissioned portraits. Her work has been featured in galleries and festivals in North Georgia.

Many of her originals and Giclee' prints are enjoyed in private collections. Although she primarily works in oil for the detail of  expression, Carol also enjoys pastel painting because of the luminosity of the medium. Currently, her main focus is on commissioned animal portraits or people with their pets; though, occasionally she does find time to paint from inspiration.

Carol was the National Artist at the 2007 American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club (ACKCSC) National Specialty in Lancaster Pennsylvania in May. Chosen as the artist featured on the cover of the 2007 Annual and on the cover of the Summer issue of the ACKCSC magazine, The Royal Dispatch, Carol donated the original of "The Happy Family" that was auctioned for the Charitable Trust. Since then, Carol has been on the cover of The Dispatch twice more with "When Are You Comin' Home", and "Gabriel's Messengers".

Carol is a member of The Bent Tree Art Guild, of Pickens County. Carol and her husband, Mike live in Bent Tree, located outside of Jasper, Georgia, in the North Georgia Mountains.
